LibDem Councillor for Rayleigh Wheatley

Introduction. I have been elected the Rochford District Council elections on 5th May, 2022 to serve the residents of Wheatley Ward in Rayleigh. Born in Rayleigh and always having lived here, I have seen many changes over the years, some to the detriment of Rayleigh people. Whatever your political preference is at national level, local politics is a completely different entity but equally as important. Decisions taken at local government level, greatly affect our quality of life and our community wellbeing both now and for future generations. Even if you didn't vote for me, I will represent the interests of all the residents of Wheatley to the best of my ability. To those of you that voted for me, I thank you sincerely and strive to prove that your vote was well placed.

A bit about me My parents lived in Eastwood Rd where I was born, 68 years ago. I went inititially to Love Lane School, but when they opened the newly built Grove school, I transferred there as it was nearer our home. I then went on to Fitzwimarc. I left Fitz to start work as a general helper at Hardings meat factory in Bull Lane - a summer job before starting my apprenticeship at Marconi, Basildon. When we married in 1975, my wife and I moved nearer the High St but still in Eastwood Rd. I have lived in Louise Road since 1985 with my wife of 47 years, Linda. We have 3 adult children and 3 grandchildren. I officially retired in April 2020 after a mainly sales career in the electronics industry to spend more time with the family. I also spent 5 years working in banking with Barclays back in the '70's but my interests were always in electronics, being also a licensed radio ham since 1977. Since September last year, I was asked to return part time, working from home, with my former employer, a large German power semiconductor manufacturer. The hours are entirely flexible and this neatly suits my lifestyle. I am a member of a local u3a group and my hobbies include playing golf (poorly), amateur radio, walking football, Bowls, amateur dramatics and keeping fit (well, trying to). I also fundraise for various charities, in May I undertook a modest 5K walk for prostate cancer, in September last year I completed a 3 month "million steps" challenge for Diabetes UK and I also took the role of "Princes Valet" in Merlin productions half term production of "Snow White" in February this year. Over the years, Merlin has raised around £60,000 for mainly local charities.
